Inside Brielle Covington’s Comeback — And the Man Now Protecting Her

By Inside Tennis Magazine

At twenty-four, Brielle Covington has everything most athletes dream about: championships, endorsements, worldwide fame, and a comeback the sports world can’t stop talking about. But after a brutal attack moments before a major tournament final nearly ended both her career and her life, Brielle is stepping back into the spotlight under intense scrutiny — and under protection.

We sat down with the tennis superstar ahead of her highly anticipated return to competition.

Q: For readers who may not know your story yet, where was your life before everything changed?

Brielle: Honestly? Perfect from the outside. I was ranked at the top of my game. Winning constantly. Traveling the world. I had sponsors, magazine covers, all of it. People looked at my life and probably thought I had everything figured out.

But pressure like that does something to you after a while. You stop feeling like a person and start feeling like a product everybody owns a piece of.

Q: Then came the attack in Tampa. What can you say about what happened?

Brielle: I was preparing for a championship match when someone entered the locker room with a knife. After that… things become blurry. I remember fighting back. I remember blood. Then I woke up in the hospital and doctors were telling me I might never play professionally again.

The strange thing is, surviving something like that doesn’t make life clearer.

It makes you question everyone around you.

Q: Including the people closest to you?

Brielle: Especially them.

Q: Since the attack, there’s been huge media attention surrounding your private investigator and security escort, former NASCAR bad boy Callum Harrison. Does having someone with that reputation around make you feel safer?

Brielle: I think people hear “Callum Harrison” and immediately decide they know who Callum is. They don’t. He’s not all sex, booze, and fast cars. He’s smart, disciplined, and very good at what he does.

What happened to me was serious. Sometimes it feels like people are more interested in gossiping about who’s standing next to me than the fact someone tried to kill me. Callum is one of the few people treating the situation like it deserves to be treated.

Q: So the rumors about the two of you frustrate you?

Brielle: What frustrates me is how quickly people turn a woman’s safety into entertainment. Somehow my trauma became secondary to speculation about my personal life. It’s exhausting.

Q: You’re also engaged to powerful sports manager Geoffrey Martin. To an outsider, your life sounds incredibly glamorous. Does it feel glamorous?

Brielle: Not lately.

Q: Do you know who attacked you?

Brielle: I think someone knows more than they’re saying.

Q: Does that scare you?

Brielle: The scary part is realizing danger doesn’t always come from strangers. Sometimes it comes from the people standing closest to you.

Q: Last question. Why come back now? Why risk stepping into the spotlight again?

(Brielle looks away briefly before answering.)

Brielle: Because I’ve spent my entire life learning how to survive people who underestimate me. I’d like to think I’m the dangerous one now.
