Honesty: I was at a podium, minding my own business and giving a speech. Then I look up mid-sentence and there was Dante, like the ghost of Christmas past. I recovered from the shock of seeing him and finished my speech gracefully.
Dante: She’s an incredible speaker.
Honesty: Thank you.
Dante: [nods] You’re welcome.
Jessica: Dante, how did you come to crash the event?
Dante: I was invited, thank you very much. I flew in as a favor to my cousin, Eli Crane. You know him.
Jessica: I know him very well.
Dante: My job was to shake hands, talk people into donating to the charity, and be on my way. Honesty put a wrinkle in that plan. [glances at Honesty] That’s not a complaint, by the way.
Honesty: [smiles]
Jessica: You two met in college, and then Dante moved to California before graduating. It’s been almost a decade since your breakup. Any regrets?
Dante: I have a rule about regret.
Honesty: He has a rule about everything.
Dante: Leaving was the responsible thing to do. My family needed me.
Jessica: Honesty, what about you? Any regrets?
Honesty: None. I followed my career dreams, and spent those years here, in Chicago, with my family.
Jessica: Let’s talk about that night at the podium. Since then, you’ve reconnected. Dante, you’re helping Honesty get her charity off the ground. Have you two been spending a lot of time together as a result?
Honesty: [exchanges glance with Dante]
Dante: [smirks] Yes.
Jessica: Care to share what that looks like?
Dante: Room service, champagne, shared showers.
Honesty: [with a laugh] Dante!
Dante: [shrugs] She asked.
Jessica: [laughing] Okay, let’s have a lightning round. Dante, let’s start with you. Favorite drink?
Dante: Aged scotch.
Jessica: Honesty?
Honesty: Wine. I hear 1984 was an excellent year.
Dante: [grins] A rare indulgence, but worth it.
Jessica: Oh-kay. [clears throat] Dante, you’re heading back to LA soon, is that right?
Dante: Yes. I’m in Chicago for a few weeks. Long enough to visit my brothers and sister, and continue to support Honesty in whatever way she needs me.
Jessica: Honesty, what are your plans after these two weeks pass?
Honesty: Resume my normal life. Continue working and building my charity.
Jessica: Hmm. Well, there are a few interested parties betting on you two having a second chance. What do you have to say to them?
Dante: Mind your own business?
Honesty: [elbows Dante] I say stay tuned. You never know. Sometimes you don’t get it right the first time.
Jessica: Or the second?
Honesty: That remains to be seen.
Dante: [meets eyes with Honesty] We’re figuring it out, though. We’re older. Wiser.
Honesty: [licks lips] We know what we’ve been missing. And this time around it’s much more…
Dante: Satisfying? Simple.
Honesty: I was going to say…delicious.
Dante: What a great word for a nutritionist.
Jessica: I think it’s time to wrap this up. You two might need a moment alone…
Dante: [takes Honesty’s hand and helps her to her feet] That’s the best idea you’ve had all day, Mrs. Lemmon.
