Today, Anne Gregor is gracing our little blog with a Character Interview for Daniel O’Faolain, one of the main characters of her upcoming release, Irish Betrayal.

1. Where do you live?

I live in Dublin, Ireland. My dad lived in Oklahoma until his late twenties, and my mom grew up in both America and Ireland, so I have strong ties to both countries. But my immediate family is all here in Ireland, and I can’t imagine ever calling anywhere else home.

1. How would you describe your family or your childhood?

It was idyllic in most respects and suffocating in others. My grandfather, dad, and uncle bought and renovated a four-story building next door to their wives’ interior design business. We each had our own flat, with a huge communal family room and pub-style bar on the ground floor. With that much family under one roof, getting away with typical kid shenanigans was nearly impossible for my cousins Jonathan and Bébhinn and me. But we always had each other, and I can honestly say I’ve never been lonely a day in my life.

1. What do you do for a living?

I work for my family. I have an MBA and help my father and uncle manage the O’Faolain Holding Company. It’s a family business in every sense of the word.

1. What do you do to entertain yourself or have fun?

I hang out with my cousins and friends. We all grew up together and still get together often, although the dynamics have changed over the years. Jonathan and Mags paired up, then Bébhinn and Dagr, and Gray and Ciar—not to mention everyone having babies. Our gatherings are a hell of a lot louder than they used to be. Me and Blair Barr were the last holdouts.

1. Biggest challenge in relationships?

I’m not proud of it, but I’ve been a bit of a playboy in the past, and that tends to color a potential girlfriend’s opinion of me. Am I genuinely interested, or is she just another woman?

1. That being the case, do you have a significant other now?

I have significant feelings for someone, if that’s what you mean.

1. Does she know?

She should. Maybe. Truth is, I’m afraid of coming on too strong.

1. What is your greatest personal failing, in your view?

Even knowing my family and friends love me and are always a call away, I tend to keep my deepest feelings to myself. It sounds cliché, but I’m no stranger to suffering in silence.

1. What keeps you awake at night?

The woman I have feelings for is hiding something from me. From everyone. I don’t know what it is, but I know it scares her. What keeps me awake is wondering why she thinks she has to face it alone.

1. What is the most pressing problem you have at the moment?

I’m wrestling with whether to enlist my family’s help to unearth whatever she’s hiding from me. I know I should wait until she’s ready to tell me herself, but knowing she’s scared makes that damn near impossible.

Anne Gregor is a Contemporary Romance author who loves using her master’s degree in history to sprinkle a little of the past into a modern package. When she is not writing, reading, or book reviewing, she is obsessed with true crime documentaries and cooking challenge shows – a combination like fish and cheese – sometimes it works. An empty nester after her three children began adulting, she still loves getting together for family game nights. Quiet evenings are reserved for hand embroidery and peanut butter.
