FlameFinder Expose: True Love in the Protectorate?
Featured In: Battle Hearts Monthly
Alternative Title: “Swipe Right for Chaos: A Joint Interview with Fortiss & Tennet”
Byline: As told (and endured) by Lady Talia of the Thirteenth House
They say you can’t judge a warrior by his armor—or his dating profile—but when I stumbled across these two on FlameFinder, I couldn’t not look. And swipe. And maybe scream into a pillow. Because really—how do you choose between a dangerously brooding Lord Protector and a glowering mountain lord who thinks arguing is foreplay?
Let’s meet our contenders:
FLAMEFINDER PROFILE ANALYSIS: FORTISS
Username: GoldenGaze91
Age: 22
Title: Lord Protector of the Protectorate
Location: First House
Three Words: Responsible. Dangerous. Driven.
Quote: “The warrior with the most magic wins.”
Perfect Date: Save the Protectorate, get the girl.
Red Flag: Studies dark magic like it’s not going to kill us all.
Green Flag: Sees me for who I am—even when I don’t.
Fun Fact: Terrified of weevishes. Like, actually terrified. (*note, this fact has been stricken from all official documentation.)
FLAMEFINDER PROFILE ANALYSIS: TENNET
Username: BlightAndWine
Age: 22
Title: Lord of the Twelfth House (and, apparently, my fiancé)
Location: Somewhere mountainous and moody
Three Words: Brash. Aggressive. Arrogant.
Quote: “It’s my way or the Blighted way.”
Perfect Date: Vineyard sunsets, strong wine, stronger arguments.
Red Flag: Mansplains combat to a tournament champion.
Green Flag: Would walk into the void if I asked.
Fun Fact: Can’t hold his skrill poison. Like, at all. (*note, this fact has been seeded into more official documentation approved by Fortiss than strictly necessary.)
The Joint Interview: Fortiss vs. Tennet (feat. me in the middle)
TALIA: Alright, gentlemen. Thank you for being here—
TENNET: You didn’t give us much of a choice.
FORTISS: [mildly amused] I found the summons… compelling.
TALIA: Let’s begin. What’s your idea of a perfect partner?
FORTISS: Someone who can hold the line—and hold their own. Like someone I know.
TENNET: Someone who bites back. And doesn’t run when things get hard. Or messy. Or loud. Unlike someone I know.
TALIA: Noted. What’s one thing the other man here does better than you?
FORTISS: [long pause] He speaks his mind.
TENNET: [grins] Fortiss can kill the joy in a room faster than a barrel of skrill. It’s impressive.
TALIA: Oh, so close to being an actual compliment. Growth! Okay—what does love mean to you?
FORTISS: Sacrifice. Trust. Choosing someone over fear.
TENNET: Fire. Grit. A reason to fight harder than you already do.
TALIA: …You two realize you sound like two sides of the same blade, right?
TENNET: [shrugs] ****Blades work better in pairs.
FORTISS: [lifts a brow] ****Only if sharpened equally.
TALIA: [deep breath] ****Final question. Describe me in one sentence.
TENNET: You’re the storm that knocks me on my ass and dares me to stand taller.
FORTISS: You are the force I never trained for—a magic who brings light to darkness and stillness to the breaking world.
TALIA: [blinks] Great. Just fantastic. And now I have to go lie down.
Love triangles are hard. Especially when both ends of the triangle are infuriatingly hot, devastatingly dangerous, and low-key obsessed with you. But hey—at least with the Western Realms exploding with an evil that could kill us all, the Protectorate is never boring.
Want to read more about Talia, Tennet, and Fortiss in Crown of Wings?
She was never meant to fight—and certainly never meant to win.
But can she make the ultimate sacrifice to save them all?
To avenge her brother’s murder, Talia of the Tenth entered the deadly Tournament of Gold in his place…and actually won. Now, as the head of her own great house and bound to a massive magical Divh, she faces an even greater challenge: saving the Protectorate from the dark, writhing evil streaming over their western borders.
As if rescuing a realm wasn’t complicated enough, Talia also finds herself caught between two powerful and exasperating allies: Fortiss, the dangerous new lord protector whose embrace of ancient magic could unleash something far worse than death; and Tennet, the arrogant bullheaded warrior she was supposed to marry-and the last man she’d ever choose. Probably.
With darkness closing in, Talia must navigate ancient prophecies, deadly magic, extraordinary otherworld realms, unexpected alliances and devastating betrayals…until she’s forced to make an impossible choice: risk everything she loves-or watch her world burn.
For only the warrior willing to give up everything can wear the CROWN OF WINGS
