Hello Lovely Readers,

We don’t know about you, but with the scorching sun out there, we’re in the mood to read a little something that’ll spur a chill to run down our spines. We want to read something where most of the characters live in the shadows or come out only at night, a lifestyle we’re tempted to adopt ourselves…that or buy an industrial-sized fan to aim right at our hammock.

If you identify with this even a little bit, here are the perfect paranormal books to help you escape the heat:

The Royal Occult Bureau by Barbara Russell

This one is free from 6/21-6/23)

London 1887: Asia Quicksilver’s life has never been a bed of roses. A prostitute at De Luna House, she’s saving all she can so she can get out of London and start afresh. However, when a handsome and menacing man asks to be her exclusive client—a man who only wishes to sit in the room while she reads entirely clothed each night—she can’t help but stick around a little longer. But soon, he does something that makes her question her choice and his sanity: he claims an incubus is after her.

Roaring Midnight by Colleen Gleason

Amid the glitzy age of Jazz, when gangsters and bootleggers control the cities, there lies another, more insidious threat….the undead. Macey Gardella is a typical young woman of the Roaring Twenties: she works a job, has her own flat, and loves to dance the Charleston. But when a mysterious man named Sebastian Vioget informs her she belongs to a family of vampire hunters, her life is turned upside down as it becomes apparent that she has no choice but to join the fight.

Love Bites by Cynthia St. Aubin

Recently divorced art history grad student Hanna Harvey has just fibbed her way into a job as the assistant to dangerously drool-worthy art gallery owner Mark Abernathy. For Hanna, working in the field she desperately loves provides the perfect opportunity to begin putting her life back together. Soon her cheese budget is in the black and her feline life partners are no longer eyeing her like a six-foot can of Fancy Feast. But when her boss’s lady friends start turning up dead, Hanna finds herself in the cross hairs of a murder investigation. Even worse, hunky homicide detective James Morrison fears hers might be the next body he discovers.

Twilight Phantasies by Maggie Shayne

Tamara’s dreams are tormented. She is lost, alone, and calling out for someone, but when she wakes she can never remember his name. Then she meets an enigmatic stranger during a midnight skate on a frozen pond, and is overcome with a sense of familiarity and powerful longing. Eric Marquand is a vampire, drawn to the beautiful Tamara because of the rare Belladonna antigen in her blood. It connects them. From the shadows, he has watched over her since childhood, a dark guardian. But when he returns after years away, he finds her living in the home of a man who’s devoted his life to the annihilation of vampire-kind.

Touch of the Mage by Jennifer Chance

Maddigan Pierce always dreamed of getting into a top college, but after a stint in juvie, her school prospects went sideways fast. Now she works at a magic academy…as a janitor. When she’s caught solving an arcane equation left on one of the professor’s boards by the hottest mage on campus, she’s roped into helping him and his three equally gorgeous friends win a decidedly screwed-up magic competition…and she may just be falling in love with all four of them as she does.
