Today on the blog, we have the ever-creative S.E. Babin with us. She’s celebrating the release of her newest book in her Shelf Indulgence Cozy Mystery series, Literary Larceny, with this cute character interview of her main character, Dakota!

What’s it like running a busy bookstore?

I’ve never had more fun in my entire life! It’s a book lover’s dream come true. Every time I get a new shipment in, it feels like Christmas. Even though I already know what’s in the box, smelling the crisp scent of paper and ink when I open it brings me back to my childhood.

Do you have a favorite book?

That’s a terrible question to ask someone like me. Can I answer all of them?

Is Poppy a big help around the shop?

If you call lazing around and begging the customers for treats ‘a big help,’ then sure, she’s a huge help!

There are rumors that this new addition to your shop will be a private investigator’s office. Can you substantiate this?

It seems only natural after the trajectory my life has taken, so yes, I can substantiate those rumors. I plan to handle small cases. Thefts, missing items, things like that.

Do you plan to save the murders for someone else?

If I can help it!

That seems like an iffy answer.

I never get involved in crime unless the crime has involved me.

I can see I may not get a straight answer with this one.

(The interviewee offers an enigmatic smile and says nothing.)

How did you get involved in solving local crime anyway?

It all started innocently. I dropped by a customer’s house and found her deceased. Things snowballed from there until suddenly, I was caught up in a murder case! The police needed a little extra help figuring out exactly how it happened, and that’s how I came in. It’s not often you get to solve a murder where books are the main suspect!

What’s coming up on the agenda?

Hopefully nothing! Oh, you mean with books? Lots of classics and crime thrillers are scheduled for delivery next week, and we have at least two author signings before Christmas. I hope to see you in the shop!
